Periostitis: a very common runners injury
Treating periostitis with electrostimulation
You have just resumed or you have stepped up the pace of your physical activities that contain running. Suddenly, pain appeared on the front of your tibia: a symptom of shin splints.
The pain is along the middle ridge of your leg, slightly lateral to it. There is a high risk that you have developed shin splints.
This is the inflammation of the membrane around your bone. The origin of this is often due to an accumulation of micro-trauma, as a result of over-stressing the attachment of your leg muscles along your tibia. Obviously, the diagnosis will have to be confirmed with your attending physician..
Treatment of Periostitis
The attitude to have will be to reduce the volume of constraints related to the race and the resulting shocks. Indeed, you will sometimes have to replace the race by cycling which will avoid impacts on the ground while maintaining a cardio type training. The goal is to treat pain, inflammation and muscle tension around the painful area.
We recommend that you regularly apply an ice pack (20 minutes / hour) directly to the painful area. We then recommend Bluetens area pain relief programs. And finally, a program for massaging the muscles, which is highlighted by lifting the foot up against slight resistance.
If you want personalized treatment and support from one of our physiotherapists, you can make the request directly from the Application via the Premium Function.
An anti-inflammatory patch application on medical advice provides interesting additional support.
A consultation with a podiatrist is required, with analysis of the footwear and sometimes recommendation of a cushioning sole.
Finally, relative rest and gradual recovery are essential elements for healing and limiting the risk of recurrence.
