Using electrostimulation for the back
Electrostimulation is an all-natural method that uses electrical impulses to strengthen muscles and soothe pain.
Electrostimulation targeted on the back is effective in relieving tension, aches or any back pain, in a simple and painless way.
Find out everything you need to know about this method and how it can help you treat your back problems or improve your physical performance.
What is electrostimulation ?
Electrostimulation is a natural process that uses electrical impulses to mimic the action of signals from nerve fibers.
These weak electrical currents, of different frequencies and intensities, target either the muscles or the nerves of a specific area.
The objective is to reproduce the natural contraction process of the muscles.
Electrostimulation performs three main functions:
- Relieve pain,
- Train a muscle,
- Relax a muscle.
How an electrostimulation session works
An electrostimulation session lasts, on average, between 5 and 15 minutes.
The first step is to place the electrodes around the area to be treated. Then you must switch on the electrostimulation device at a low level.
As the session progresses, you can increase the intensity of the electrical impulses until you feel a slight tingling sensation.
Note that the intensity of the pulses can be adjusted throughout the session as your body gets used to the sensation.
Under no circumstances should an electrostimulation session be painful. You should only feel a tingling or warm sensation.
Targeted electrostimulation on the back
Electrotherapy can target many areas of the body.
It is particularly effective for strengthening the muscles of the upper and lower back, but also for reducing chronic and occasional pain.
Electrostimulation to relieve lower back pain
Whether chronic or occasional, localized pain in the lower back is very common and affects a large part of the active population.
Without adequate care, it can become very disabling.
Many natural methods, including electrostimulation or stretching exercises, can effectively relieve this lower back pain.
In order to relieve pain, electrical impulses are sent on a specific wavelength to reach the nerves rather than the muscles.
Electrical stimulation helps prevent pain receptors from traveling from the nerves to the brain.
Electrostimulation to strengthen the back muscles
The electrical impulses can also create rhythmic muscle contractions to strengthen the back muscles.
Combined with regular physical activity, electrostimulation programs help improve sports performance by developing the strength and endurance of targeted muscles.
Many professional athletes use electrostimulation sessions to perfect their physical preparation.
Using electrostimulation for other back-related conditions
Electrotherapy is also known to be effective in reducing the symptoms of the following conditions:
● Sciatica,
● Cruralgia,
● Endometriosis,
● Intercostal pain,
● Cervical sprain,
● Torticollis.
Is electrostimulation really effective against lower back pain?
Several studies show that electrostimulation promotes the relief of certain pains, including chronic lower back pain.
In particular, one study was carried out on a group of patients suffering from lower back pain.
The results obtained prove the effectiveness of electrostimulation
● Patients treated with electrostimulation had less hospital visits because of their lower back pain,
● Treated patients had less use for diagnostic imaging,
● Treated patients required fewer back surgeries.
