Electrostimulation of the shoulders
Electrostimulation relieves certain pains, strengthens muscles and increases physical performance through the use of electrical impulses.
This non-drug method is effective in treating certain specific shoulder conditions, such as aches or tendonitis.
Find out everything you need to know about electrostimulation that is targeted on the shoulder to relieve certain pains or strengthen your muscles.
What is electrostimulation?
Electrostimulation is a natural process that aims to cause muscle contraction via electrical impulses.
Natural muscle contraction occurs when the brain sends electrical signals to muscles through the nerve fibers.
An electrostimulation device simulates the same type of signal produced by the brain and causes muscle contraction in the targeted area.
This process is used as a therapeutic solution in many sectors such as medicine or in sports.
When performed with the proper equipment, electrotherapy has two great qualities:
● The relief of transient or chronic pain by working on the nerves,
● Strength training and increased physical performance by contracting the muscles using electrical impulses.
Electrostimulation targeted on the shoulders
Electrostimulation is effective on most areas of the body, including the shoulders.
It makes it possible to treat many conditions related to the shoulders, but also to strengthen physical performance and muscle development.
Electrostimulation to relieve aches
Aches are muscle pains that usually appear between 12 and 24 hours after performing an intense or unusual physical effort. They can also occur at the start of a viral infection.
The pain usually subsides after a few days of rest.
In cases of very intense or persistent aches in the shoulders, electrostimulation helps to reduce the intensity of the muscle pain. It is also recommended to practice stretching exercises to soothe pain and promote muscle recovery.
To relieve aches, simply place the electrodes on the shoulder and start a session with low-intensity electrical impulses. This treats the muscle gently and promotes the healing of damaged muscle fibers.
Electrostimulation to strengthen the shoulders
Electrostimulation also helps strengthen the shoulder muscles.
The shoulder muscles have a very important role. They protect the shoulder joints which are put under a lot of stress, but also very susceptible to injury.
The combination of strength training exercises and targeted electrostimulation programs on the shoulders is very effective. Physical performance is improved through the development of muscle strength and muscle endurance qualities.
Electrostimulation works the shoulder muscles gently, without stressing the joints. Most muscle building exercises put stress on the joints, the risk of injury should a movement be performed poorly or with excessive intensity is very real.
The benefits of electrostimulation for tendonitis
Tendonitis in the shoulder is an inflammation of the tendons of the four scapular rotator muscles. These tendons are responsible for shoulder rotation.
The main cause of tendonitis in the shoulder is overuse of the joint. Many sports activities put stress on the shoulder joints increasing the risk of tendon inflammation, such as:
● Tennis,
● Baseball,
● Weightlifting,
● Combat sports,
● Handball,
● Etc.
Certain jobs and hobbies involving repetitive arm raising movements also increase the risk of tendonitis, such as:
● Gardening,
● Painting,
● Agriculture,
● Cleaning,
● Etc.
Tendonitis generally begins with an acute phase during which inflammation of the tendons is intense and very painful.
Several daily electrostimulation sessions of 15 to 20 minutes will help to reduce the pain.
The intensity of the electrical impulses must be adjusted so that the targeted area contracts sufficiently, without causing pain. The ideal method is to start on a low intensity, then gradually increase this until you feel a tingling sensation.
The electrotherapy can be maintained until the inflammation disappears.
